NAIA District 27 Men's Basketball

NAIA District 27 primarily consisted of NAIA schools in Alabama. In the initial alignment, the district was assigned to Tennessee. After the 1965 season, Tennessee was reassigned to District 24 and Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana were moved from District 19. Mississippi and Louisiana were later split off to District 30, Louisiana in 1968 and Mississippi in 1975.

When the NAIA split into divisions in 1992, the teams in the district competed in Division I.

Primary sources for information on this district include the Gadsden Times, Florence Times Daily, and Tuscaloosa News for the Alabama period. There is no primary source for the Tennessee era.

Formats

1951: District did not exist.

1952-66; 1968-83; 1985-91: Four-team format.

1967; 1984: Best-of-three series.

1992-93: Six-team format with top two seeds receiving byes to the semifinals.

† - Memphis State also won the 1951 District 19 title. Union (TN) also won the 1992 District 24 Division I title. Carson-Newman won three District 24 titles. Athens won the District 19 title in 1963. Alcorn A&M also won five District 30 titles.
