The Christopher Newport University Captains compete in NCAA Division III as members of the New Jersey Athletic Conference for football, and the Capital Athletic Conference for basketball. Christopher Newport, formerly a branch campus of the College of William and Mary, is a private non-sectarian institution located in the Tidewater community of Newport News, Virginia. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 5,000.
