The Huston-Tillotson University Rams compete as members of the Red River Athletic Conference in NAIA Division I basketball. The school does not sponsor football. Huston-Tillotson, a historically black college, was formed by the merger of Samuel Huston College and Tillotson College in 1952. HTU is a private institution affiliated with the Church of Christ and the Methodist Church, located in the capital city of Austin, Texas. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 500.
