The Clark Atlanta University Panthers compete as members of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in NCAA Division II football and basketball. Clark Atlanta, a historically black college, is a private Methodist institution located near downtown Atlanta, Georgia. The school as currently constituted formed in 1988 with the merger of Clark College and Atlanta University; Clark Atlanta retains Clark College's athletic records. Atlanta University had not competed in intercollegiate athletics for quite some time prior to the merger. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 4,000.
