The Augsburg College Auggies compete as members of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in NCAA Division III football and basketball. Augsburg is a private Lutheran institution located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 4,000.
The campus is located to the north of Interstate 94 (exits 234 and 235) and spreads out for a few blocks to the east (towards Riverside Avenue), the north (Riverside and 6th Street East), and the west (Cedar Avenue). Edor Nelson Field (2,000) can be found at Butler Place between 23th and 24th Avenues. Si Melby Hall (2,200) is across from Edor Nelson Field on 24th Avenue.
The biggest rival of the Auggies is Hamline, the rivalry rooted in the sport of basketball. The Pipers though, have a much stronger rivalry with Saint Thomas (MN), with whom they compete for the Wilson Brothers Trophy.
In spite of its small size, three Auggies have gone on to an NFL career. They have also produced two players who have gone on to an NBA or ABA career. The most famous alum of the program, however, is Lute Olson (class of 1956), who went on to a hall of fame coaching career at Long Beach State, Iowa, and most famously at Arizona where he guided the Wildcats to an NCAA title in 1997.
