The Western Washington University Vikings compete in NCAA Division II basketball as members of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and in football as members of the North Central Conference (1922-2008). The school's football team will begin competing in the reformed football section of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference in 2008. Western Washington is a public institution located in Bellingham, Washington, about 20 minutes south of the Canadian border crossing to Vancouver. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 12,000.
