The Saint Olaf College Oles compete as members of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in NCAA Division III football and basketball. Saint Olaf is a private Lutheran institution located in Northfield, Minnesota, about a half-hour south of Minneapolis. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 3,000.
Saint Olaf's campus anchors the west side of Northfield, located west of Lincoln Street, with the corner of Cedar and Greenvale Avenues forming the school's northern border.
The main rival of the Oles is crosstown Carleton, the two compete annualy for the Book of Knowledge in football. The two also have an interesting footnote in college football history, as they played the only NCAA-sanctioned game played under the Metric system in 1977(The Oles won).
All four Oles who played in the NFL did so in the league's early years. The basketball program has no NBA alumni.
