The Virginia State University Trojans compete as members of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association in NCAA Division II football and basketball. Virginia State, a historically black college, is a public land-grant institution located in the Petersburg suburb of Ettrick, Virginia, about a half hour south of Richmond. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 4,000.
