The Mineral Water Bowl is a bowl game held at Tiger Stadium in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. It was originally a high-school bowl game from 1947 until the Missouri High School Athletic Association banned unsanctioned post-season games in 1952. After a brief hiatus, the venue was sanctioned for a small-college level bowl game which ran from 1954-1975.
It then went dormant until revived in 1992 as a junior college bowl; in 2000, it became an NCAA Division II bowl game pitting the highest-placed teams from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference which did not make the NCAA Division II Playoffs (except in years when one conference was unable to provide another .500-or-better team, in which case another team from that conference's respective region -- North Central for the NSIC, South Central for the MIAA -- was selected as a replacement). 2011 was the first time this occurred, with Northeastern State filling the MIAA's spot.
The game is currently one of three sanctioned bowl games for Division II, the others being the Kanza Bowl and the Pioneer Bowl.
