The Lamar University Cardinals compete as members of the Southland Conference in NCAA Division I basketball. The school has not sponsored football since 1969. Lamar, formerly "Lamar Tech", is a public institution located in Beaumont, Texas, about 90 minutes east of Houston. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 9,000.
