The United States Coast Guard Academy Bears compete in NCAA Division III as members of the New England Football Conference for football, and the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference for basketball. Coast Guard is a federal military institution located in New London, Connecticut, about 45 minutes southeast of Hartford. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 1,000.
