The Wayland Baptist University Pioneers compete in NAIA Division I as members of the Sooner Athletic Conference in basketball, and in NAIA football as members of the Central States Football League. The university plans on adding football for 2012 and competing in the Central States Football League. Wayland Baptist is a private Baptist institution located in Plainview, Texas, about 45 minutes north of Lubbock. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 6,000.
