The Misericordia University Cougars compete as members of the Middle Atlantic Conference in NCAA Division III basketball. The school does not currently sponsor football, but will begin fielding a team in 2012. Misericordia is a private Catholic (Sisters of Mercy) institution located in Dallas, Pennsylvania, about 20 minutes west of Scranton. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 1,000.
