The athletic teams representing McMurry University compete as members of the American Southwest Conference in NCAA Division III football and basketball. The school's teams do not currently have a nickname, having abandoned the "Indian" nickname in the face of NCAA pressure; the current administration does not intend to adopt a new nickname. McMurry is a private Methodist institution located in Abilene, Texas. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 1,000.
