The Alvernia College Crusaders compete as members of the Colonial States Athletic Conference in NCAA Division III basketball. The school does not sponsor football. The school's teams will move to the Middle Atlantic Conference for the 2008-09 season. Alvernia is a private Catholic (Franciscan) institution located in Reading, Pennsylvania, about an hour northwest of Philadelphia. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 2,000.
