The Clemson University Tigers compete as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference in NCAA Division I FBS football and in NCAA Division I basketball. Clemson is a public land-grant institution located in Clemson, South Carolina, in the western end of the state. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 14,000.
Clemson is nestled between SC 93 (Old Greenville Highway) and Lake Hartwell, west of US 76. Exit 19B off I-85 in Northlake, about 10 miles south of campus, is the closest networked freeway access; US 123 is a freeway from the Greenville exurb of Easley, and runs almost directly to campus. Memorial Stadium (80,000) and Littlejohn Coliseum (10,000) are on the western end of campus, off Centennial Boulevard.
Clemson has one mortal enemy: South Carolina. Lesser rivalries exist with Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and North Carolina State.
Clemson has had 166 players reach the NFL, including Terry Allen, Jeff Bostic, Jeff Bryant, Dwight Clark, Brian Dawkins, Steve Fuller, Terry Kinard, Levon Kirkland, Chester McGlockton, Jimmy Orr, Michael Dean Perry, William "Refrigerator" Perry, Trevor Pryce, and Charlie Waters. Former coaches include John Heisman, Jess Neely, Frank Howard, Danny Ford, Ken Hatfield, and Tommy Bowden. Horace Grant, Larry Nance, Tree Rollins, Dale Davis, and Elden Campbell head the list of 15 former Tigers to play in the NBA or ABA; former coaches include Rick Barnes, Bill Foster, Tates Locke, and Press Maravich.
