The Texas A&M University Aggies compete as members of the Big 12 Conference in NCAA Division I FBS football and in NCAA Division I basketball. The school will move to the Southeastern Conference for all sports in 2012. Texas A&M is a public land-grant institution located midway between Dallas and Houston in the town of College Station, Texas, near Bryan. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 37,000.
Texas A&M is College Station, effectively; the campus itself lies west of Texas Avenue (TX 6 BUS) between George Bush Drive and University Drive/Raymond Stotzer Parkway. Every College Station exit off TX 6 serves the campus. There is no freeway access to Bryan/College Station, though TX 6 is a freeway through the area; there's about a 30-mile gap between the end of that segment and the US 290 freeway to Houston. Kyle Field (83,000) is in the middle of campus at the corner of Wellborn Road and John Kimbrough Boulevard. Reed Arena (13,000) is a block to the west, at the corner of Kimbrough and Olsen Boulevard.
The rivalry between the Aggies and Texas is one of the most storied in all of college sports, and compared to that rivalry A&M has no others. That said, there is a lesse rivalry with Arkansas, and a rivalry with Baylor which is surprisingly fierce for the lack of attention it gets outside the region.
The Aggies have been very well represented in the NFL, with 246 alumni including DLs Sam Adams, Ray Childress, and Jacob Green, LBs Lee Roy Caffey and Jack Pardee, RB John David Crow, DBz Dave Elmendorf, Aaron Glenn, Lester Hayes, and Yale Lary, and T Richmond Webb. Only 8 Aggies have reached the NBA or ABA, most notably Sonny Parker.
