The Wayland Baptist University Pioneers compete as members of the Sooner Athletic Conference in NAIA Division I basketball. The university plans on adding football for 2012 and compete in the Central States Football League. Wayland Baptist is a private Baptist institution located in Plainview, Texas, about 45 minutes north of Lubbock. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 6,000.
