The University of Charleston Golden Eagles compete as members of the Mountain East Conference in NCAA Division II football and basketball. The school dropped football in 1955, reinstating the program in 2003. Charleston, formerly known as "Morris Harvey College", is a private non-sectarian institution located just across the Kanawha River from the state capitol building in Charleston, West Virginia. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 1,000.
