The Oklahoma Panhandle State University, or OPSU, Cowboys (Cowgirls for the women's teams) complete in NCAA Division II football as independents and in basketball as members of the Heartland Conference. Although not an NAIA member nor a member of the conference, the school maintains a scheduling alliance with the Central States Football League and plays a full round-robin schedule against that league. OPSU is a public institution located in Goodwell, Oklahoma, in the center of the panhandle. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 2,000.
