Copper Bowl
The Cactus Bowl is a bowl game held at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. The bowl began as the Copper Bowl in 1989 at Arizona Stadium in Tucson before moving to Chase Field in Phoenix in 2000. In 2005, the game moved to Tempe. From 1997-2011, the bowl was sponsored by Insight, and was officially known as the Insight Bowl without any reference to its original name; in 2012 and 2013, it was the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl. After Buffalo Wild Wings withdrew their sponsorship to begin sponsoring the Citrus Bowl, the organizing committee took on the current name and moved the game to January, picking up TicketCity as a sponsor.
In its first three years, the bowl invited at-large teams. Beginning in 1992, a Mountain West Conference team began hosting the bowl; in 1993, the Big 12 Conference began providing the opponent, although there were years in which the Big 12 was unable to meet its commitment. In 2002, the bowl switched to a Pacific-12 Conference/Big East Conference matchup, then moved to a Big 12/Big Ten Conference game beginning in 2006.
The most-well known edition of the game was the 2006 contest, when Texas Tech trailed Minnesota 38-7 in the third quarter only to come back and win in overtime, costing Minnesota coach Glen Mason his job.
