The Ave Maria University Gyrenes compete as members of the The Sun Conference in NAIA football and NAIA Division II basketball. Ave Maria is a private Catholic institution located in Ave Maria, Florida, a planned college community near the Everglades, about an hour southeast of Fort Myers. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 1,000.
