The University of Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars begin competing as NCAA Division II Basketball Independents on a provisional basis in 2008. The school does not sponsor football. Illinois-Springfield, formerly "Sangamon State University", is a public institution located in the capital city of Springfield, Illinois. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 3,000.
