The College of the Holy Cross Crusaders compete as members of the Patriot League in NCAA Division I FCS football and in NCAA Division I basketball. Holy Cross is a private Catholic (Jesuit) institution located in Worcester, Massachusetts. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 3,000.

The campus sits between College Street and McKeon Road in the southern portion of Worcester, directly accessible via exit 11 (Southbridge Street) on I-290. Fitton Field (23,500) is on the north side of campus alongside I-290, while Hart Center (3,600) sits on the south end of campus (and is only accessible through campus roads). Hart Center has hosted numerous Patriot League basketball tournaments, as well as the 1999 and 2002 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference hockey championships.

Holy Cross's chief rival, despite the fact that they hardly ever meet in competition anymore outside of hockey, is Boston College.

Lest there be any doubt about the significance of Crusader athletics, 72 Holy Cross alumni have played in the NFL. Two-way lineman George Connor, TE Doug Cosbie, DL Bob Dee, C Jon Morris, FB Bill Osmanski, G Vince Promuto, and OL Joe Zeno all made it to the Pro Bowl. But basketball is where the school truly left its imprint. Hall of Famers Bob Cousy (who led the team to the 1947 NCAA Championship) and Tommy Heinsohn (1954 NIT title), along with seven other Crusader alums, played in the NBA or ABA.
