The Marquette University Warriors compete as members of the Big East Conference in NCAA Division I basketball. The school has not sponsored football since 1960. Marquette is a private Catholic (Jesuit) institution located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 8,000.
The campus is located just west of downtown Milwaukee, surrounded by US 18 (Wells Street) to the north, I-43 to the west, I-94 to the south, and 19th Street to the west. Its location at the junction of two interstates actually makes access tricky; from the west, Exit 310B (13th Street) off I-94 is the direct access; from all other directions the sanest option is to take I-94 west past the campus and use Exit 309B (25th Street) then double back on city streets. Al McGuire Center (4,000), home of the women's basketball squad, is at the northeast corner of campus on the corner of 12th and Wells. The men play at Bradley Center (19,000), about a mile northeast of campus at the corner of State Street and 4th Street.
Marquette sports several long-term rivals, chiefly Wisconsin, Notre Dame, DePaul, and Pittsburgh.
Despite not having football since 1960, Marquette has sent 70 players on to the NFL; the most successful of the group were two of the very last players to suit up for Marquette in DE George Andrie and DB Karl Kassulke. They've sent 34 players to the NBA and ABA, including Maurice Lucas, Jim Chones, Doc Rivers, and Dwyane Wade.
