Placeholder information:

The Illinois Intercollegiate Conference split off from the Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Association in 1937. Ultimately, this split and a realignment post-war led to the creation of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin in 1946 and the Interstate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 1950.

We consider the Interstate to be the direct successor-in-interest of the Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Association because all remaining members of the latter were charter members of the Interstate. However, not all members of the Illinois Intercollege Conference went on to form the CCIW post-war, and some of the CCIW's charter members were IIAA members who drifted back to the fold, so we treat the IICC as a separate entity from the CCIW.

In essence, this sequence of events was the final resolution of the mild conflict between schools with big-time athletic aspirations and schools which didn't. Although the splits themselves weren't motivated by disagreements over scholarship aid, taken together they forever divided the non-Big Ten Conference NCAA schools in Illinois between a path toward Division I and firm entrenchment in what would become Division III.

Note: Dates are tentative. Some schools may not have been charter members; some almost certainly left prior to 1943, even if only as a result of suspending programs during World War II. (As policy, we ignore the effect of program suspensions during wartime on conference membership unless a school doesn't return to the conference post-war, in which case we note the school as having left the conference at the time they suspended their program. As this league obviously didn't survive the war, if we find that any schools left prior to 1943 we'll update their membership status accordingly.)
