The University of the District of Columbia, or UDC, Firebirds compete as members of the NCAA Division II Independents in NCAA Division II basketball. The school does not sponsor football. UDC, formed by a merger of "Federal City College" and "District of Columbia Teacher's College" (itself a merger of "Miner Teachers College", and "Wilson Teachers College"), is a public institution located in northwest Washington, DC. Because of its tie to the all-black Miner College, UDC is considered to be a historically black college despite its relatively recent formation. On this site, Miner College, District of Columbia Teacher's College, and UDC are considered to be one continuous institution for athletic records, while Federal City and Wilson are handled separately. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 5,000.
