The Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs compete as members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in NCAA Division II football and basketball. Southwest Minnesota State, formerly just "Southwest State", is a public institution located in Marshall, Minnesota, about two hours west of Minneapolis. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 4,000.
