The Bates College Bobcats compete as members of the New England Small College Athletic Conference in NCAA Division III football and basketball. Amherst is a private non-sectarian institution located in Lewiston, Maine, about a half-hour north of Portland. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 2,000.
