Jim Phelan Award
From Varsity Pride
The Jim Phelan Award is a college basketball award given each year to the most outstanding coach in the nation who coaches a major team. (Specifically, only coaches from the Atlantic Coast Conference, Atlantic 10 Conference, Big East Conference, Big Ten Conference, Big 12 Conference, Conference USA, Mountain West Conference, Pacific-12 Conference, and Southeastern Conference are eligible.) The award is presented by CollegeInsider.com.
Originally, the award was CollegeInsider.com's coach of the year award for all of Division I, but the "major only" restriction came into being when the Hugh Durham Award was instituted in 2005, after Mercer's Mark Slonaker had already won the award.
