Dixie Classic
From Varsity Pride
The Dixie Classic was a semi-major bowl game which was held on three separate occasions over a span of 12 years at Fair Park Stadium in Dallas, Texas. It was the precursor to the currently-existing Cotton Bowl, and the host team for each iteration of the game was from the Southwest Conference.
The 1922 edition saw the beginning of Texas A&M's famous 12th Man tradition, as A&M coach Dana Bible called E. King Gill -- an Aggie football player who had left the squad at the end of the regular season to focus on basketball -- down from the stands to be ready in case he was needed because of injuries.
