Not to be confused with Kansas City University in Kansas City, Kansas, which closed in 1933, the same year UMKC opened.

The University of Missouri-Kansas City, or "UMKC"", Kangaroos compete as members of the Western Athletic Conference in NCAA Division I basketball. The school does not sponsor football. UMKC, originally founded as the University of Kansas City, is a public institution located in the Rockhill neighborhood of Kansas City, Missouri. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 9,000.
