The University of Maine at Machias Clippers now compete as members of the United States Small College Athletic Association; prior to its 2011 dissolution, the school competed as members of the Sunrise Athletic Conference in NAIA Division II basketball. Their home arena is the Renolds Athletic Center. The school does not sponsor football. Maine-Machias is a public institution located in Machias, Maine, near the Canadian border in the far eastern side of the state, about four hours east of Portland and two and a half hours west of Saint John, New Brunswick. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 1,000.
