The Benedictine University at Springfield Bulldogs compete as members of the American Midwest Conference in NAIA Division II basketball. The school does not sponsor football. Benedictine-Springfield, formerly Springfield College, reinstated basketball in 2012 after having terminated the program in 2000 due to budgetary concerns. Springfield was also without basketball from the late 1970s until 1993 for the same reasons. The school is a private Catholic (Benedictine/Ursuline) institution located in the capital city of Springfield, Illinois. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 900.
