The Monmouth University Hawks compete as members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in NCAA Division I basketball and, for the 2013 season, in NCAA Division I FCS football; they'll join the Big South Conference for football in 2014. Monmouth is a private non-sectarian institution located in the town of West Long Branch, New Jersey, in the heart of the Jersey Shore area. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 4,000.
