NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Consensus All-Americans are determined based on a point system. First team selections from recognized major selectors are awarded three points; second team selections two points; and third-team selections one point. The five highest totals (plus ties) are named consensus first-team All-Americans.

The recognized major selectors, as determined by the NCAA, are as follows (current selectors bold):

  • Colliers (Basketball Coaches) (1939, 1949-1956)
  • Pic Magazine (1942-1944)
  • Sporting News (1943-1946, 1997-present)
  • Argosy Magazine (1945)
  • True Magazine (1946-1947)
  • Associated Press (1948-present)
  • Look Magazine (1949-1963)
  • United Press International (1949-1996)
  • International News Service (1950-1958)
  • National Association of Basketball Coaches (1957-present)
  • United States Basketball Writers Association (1960-present)
