The Southern Benedictine College Saints ceased operations in 1979 when the school closed due to financial problems. At the time, the school competed in NAIA basketball. It had never fielded a football team. Southern Benedictine was a private Catholic (Benedictine) institution located in Cullman, Alabama, halfway between Birmingham and Huntsville. The school was previously known as Saint Bernard College before merging with Cullman College in 1976.
