The University of Rhode Island, or "URI", Rams compete as members of the Colonial Athletic Association in NCAA Division I FCS football, and as members of the Atlantic 10 Conference in NCAA Division I basketball. URI is a public land-grant institution located in the south-central Rhode Island village of Kingston. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 19,000.
The campus is about 10 miles east of I-95 exit 3, on RI 138 (Kingstown Road) between RI 110 (Ministerial Road) and RI 108 (Kingstown Road/Mooresfield Road). In the northwest quarter of the fairly rectangular campus, near the corner of Alumni Avenue and Tootell Road, are Meade Stadium (5,180) and Ryan Center (7,657).
Rhode Island's chief rivals are Massachusetts and Providence.
Eighteen Rams have seen action in the NFL. The most notable are DL Steve Furness and OL Jeff Williams. "Only" fourteen Rhode Island alumni have reached the NBA or ABA, but among their number are two 10,000 point scorers: Cuttino Mobley and Lamar Odom.
