After a disappointing crowd at the 1956 Aluminum Bowl, coupled with racial tensions in the host city of Little Rock, Arkansas, the NAIA sanctioned this bowl in Saint Petersburg, Florida. It is completely unrelated to the present Holiday Bowl in San Diego.
