The University of South Dakota Coyotes compete as members of the North Central Conference (1922-2008) in NCAA Division II football and basketball. Effective in 2008, the school will begin its move into NCAA Division I, competing as independents. South Dakota is a public institution located in Vermillion, South Dakota, in the far southeastern corner of the state about 45 minutes south of Sioux Falls. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 6,000.
