Liberty Bowl
The Liberty Bowl is a bowl game held at the stadium of the same name in Memphis, Tennessee since 1965, after having been played in Philadelphia's Municipal Stadium from 1959-1963, and then indoors at Atlantic City's Convention Hall in 1964.
For the first few years, the host was an Eastern independent. The invitations were open from 1963-1988 before the bowl reached an agreement with the service academies to accept the winner of the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy as host school. That state of affairs lasted from 1989-1992. Since 1996, the champion of Conference USA hosted the game; from 1999-2005, their opponent was the Mountain West Conference champion. Beginning in 2006, the visiting team was a selection from the Southeastern Conference.
