The Saint Bonaventure University Bonnies compete as members of the Atlantic 10 Conference in NCAA Division I basketball. The school has not sponsored football since 1952. Saint Bonaventure is a private Catholic (Franciscan) institution located in the town of Allegany, New York, on the outskirts of the city of Olean. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 2,000. The school's athletic teams were formerly knows as the Brown Indians, but this was changed long ago in response to sensitivity concerns -- in fact, well before such concerns became widespread throughout athletics.
