The University of North Alabama Lions compete as members of the Gulf South Athletic Conference in NCAA Division II football and basketball. North Alabama, formerly known as "Florence State", is a public institution located in Florence, Alabama, in the Muscle Shoals region in the northern part of the state. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 7,000. Braly Stadium, the team's home football field, is the traditional home of the NCAA Division II Football Championship Game.
