The Barat College of the Sacred Heart Bulldogs ceased operations in 2004 as a prelude to the school being closed the following summer and merged into DePaul University, which had purchased the campus in 2001. At the time, the school was a member of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (Division I), competing in NAIA Division I basketball. The school, which was a women-only institution until 1982, never sponsored football. Barat was a private Catholic (Sacred Heart) institution located in Lake Forest, Illinois, a half-hour north of Chicago.
