The policy of this site in regard to all-conference team recognition is to use the conference's "official" selection where such exists, or the Associated Press selection where it does not. If neither exists, another selection may be used.

In the case of the PCAA/Big West, neither an official selection or an AP selection is available yet. As a result, the all-conference teams as listed here are taken from each school's individual media guide.

However, the schools themselves do not necessarily have the correct information. For the years in which we have compiled the actual Associated Press all-conference first team, on occasion we have uncovered a first-team selection which a given school has forgotten about; there are also numerous occasions where a school claims a first-team selection which was not an AP first-team selection. (That doesn't mean the player wasn't a first-team selection from some other reasonably respected body, but in many cases a school does claim a first-team selection which wasn't even a second-team AP selection just because someone selected the player.)

Research on this subject is ongoing, and reader assistance would be welcomed if you have access to microfilm of California newspapers between December 1-20 of a missing year, or access to PCAA/Big West media guides listing these selections. Jon 10:02, 26 March 2014 (CDT)
