The University of Massachusetts Boston, or UMass-Boston Beacons compete as members of the Little East Conference in NCAA Division III basketball. The school does not sponsor football. UMass-Boston, formerly "Boston State", is a public institution located in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 13,000.

Although Massachusetts-Boston was formed as a separate institution from Boston State, when the schools merged in the summer of 1982, Boston State's athletic heritage was adopted by Massachusetts-Boston as its own.
