The Texas Bowl is a bowl game held in Houston, Texas since 2000. The bowl began as the Houston Bowl, and was played at the Astrodome its first two years before moving to Reliant Stadium. in 2005, the bowl ceased operations, but the rights to the game were purchased and it became the Texas Bowl in 2006. On paper, the two bowl games are separate, but are treated here as the same since the operation essentially continued uninterrupted. In 2011, Meineke Car Care, formerly the sponsor of the Queen City Bowl, took over sponsorship.
As the Houston Bowl, the game featured a matchup of Conference USA and Big 12 Conference teams, with Navy stepping in one year when CUSA couldn't fill their quota. As the Texas Bowl, there has not been a stable tie-in, as various conferences have signed series of one-year deals with the bowl.
