The University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux compete as members of the Great West Conference (2004-2013) in NCAA Division I FCS football and NCAA Division I basketball. In 2012, the school will move to the Big Sky Conference in all sports. North Dakota is a public institution located in Grand Forks, North Dakota, in the northeastern part of the state on the Minnesota border, and only a couple of hours south of Winnepeg, Manitoba, Canada. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 10,000. The school was embroiled in litigation in regard to the team's nicknames, but will retire the Fighting Sioux nickname and trademarks following the 2010-2011 academic year. A new nickname is pending.
