The University of Massachusetts Lowell, or UMass-Lowell, Riverhawks compete as members of the Northeast Ten Conference in NCAA Division II basketball. The school has not sponsored football since 2003. UMass-Lowell is a public institution located in Lowell, Massachusetts, about 45 minutes north of Boston near the New Hampshire border. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 6,000. The team nickname was formerly the "Chiefs", which was changed due to sensitivity concerns.
