The Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets compete as members of the Dakota Athletic Conference (1922-2012) in NAIA football and NAIA Division II basketball. The school is currently in provisional status, moving to NCAA Division II. Black Hills State is a public institution located in Spearfish, South Dakota, about 45 minutes northwest of Rapid City.
